Do you have to conquer all of the map to win the game or do you also have the choice to achieve something to win?

By looking at the map screen i dont see what year it is!?

There is no year counter in KoH.
There are three ways to end a KoH-game:
Conquer all of europe, become 'Emperor of Europe' through election and... loosing ;) .

beter to have no year counter than be forced to stop the game in certain year or play with knights and archers in year 3650 A.D. don't ya think?

How do you know that you're in the year 3650 A.D.?

Angryminer, I think you misunderstood Elewyn. He said it was better not to have a year counter than to have one and still be trying to conquer Europe with knights and archers in 3650 A.D..

My post wasn't intended to contradict Elewyn's post, but support it's point.

It is better that there would be no years because you can take your time and play the game in your own speed otherwise the time would make it boring. The goal is to conquer thats wht they put three Medieval so that time would not be included

That is a very good question? Ome that Ihave wondered about also. It seems to me that it would mean you lose.

Then you'll have to chose a successor - if you don't have a son to take over the throne.

Or maybe a Civil War will Develop and you have to choose sides, and battle it out for the throne.:)

I just think its too bad because the way as it is now as far i understood you have to wage war, and i was actually hoping you could also play peacefully and just defend which can also be lots of fun like MTW.

You can do that too.
Either you can play as long as you posess a KoH-compatible computer (estimated 50 years) or stop after a while, whenever you want.
Or you can unify Europe military or by diplomacy/espionage.
But you never have to touch the sword.
The cool thing about KoH is that you never have to stop. No "game over" screen because you run out of time.

*lol* give me 5, angryminer

by the way: that also what i love. i really really hatedt it in medieval: total war, that time was over after a certain year. just when i really could use my pwoer and had every army with the best and newest units and every province withh all possible buildings and upgrades. so thx to KoH and its creators, that there is NO end by time.

some people like to have lots of time to do things....its kindof like a snapshot in time where it stays that way for hundreds of years....so then everything can be concentrated on one time period....as if there is not scienctists working on technology....its different than rise of nations that goes from mideivil times to the present....

I would prefer to have a game that you can win by achieving things instead of just plain conquering. That would improve gameplay with weaker and smaller nations in KoH.:(
