Speeding up the game

Im having problems with speeding up the game.

I ve tried + and - and also * but nothing happens. Im using a laptop, by the way, so is there a difference?

Is there a "hidden" number pad on your keyboard? i.e., it's only accessible if you hit the Fn key while hitting another key?

You might need to hit:
Fn+; for +
Fn+P for -
Fn+0 for *

or something similar to that.

Yes that is the reason. You need to hit the Fn button along with another. I had the same problem and it took me forever to figure it out.
