I was SO upset about KOH not being released in the US. I have been following this game since the web site went up and was really looking forward to driving down to the local mall and picking it up off the shelf........I know that I can just import it from the UK, which I just did, but I'm shocked that it hasn't been released in the US. Are there any plans for it to be relesed here?

I kind of admit that I'm a little surprised myself. Though, without any insight as to EA's license, I wonder if they have exclusive rights to it and just don't want to distribute it in an mis-judgement that 2-D games are dead. (Appearently never having heard of Civ III?)

Maybe KOH 2 will have better luck. Or even be 3D itself?

EA (and all american publishers for that matter) are under the assumption that American gamers
are drooling brain dead console fanatics, who are uninterested in 2D or Turn based games.
As a developer You don't have prayer of getting a game published in America if your game doesn't have flashing lights and all the bells and whistles of the last "big thing".
If you give a crap about what kind of games you have access to here
what you need to do is NOT buy anything in America
I buy all my games online and import them all from the UK
Plus you get DVD cases for storage (something I can't figure out *why* we don't do here other than to waste paper on cardboard boxes)
American publishers need to wake the F- up and they only thing they listen to is your money.
I seriously doubt they will change..but at least I feel a whole lot better.

Okay, I'm a complete idiot. Where exactly did you order it from. When I go and check, they won't ship the the US. So where did you find it and how much?

www.game.net

Games in general (at this point) are not regionally encoded
IF that happens we are really screwed

Damn shame. I played the demo and I LOVE it! I seem to like the overall strategy instead of the "oh, well archers should stand here and the swordsman should scratch their butts now." I love that KOH has many other aspects to it other than miltary actions. So hopefully British mail is quick with my KOH!

game.net wouldn't work for me. Probably because they don't get along with my proxy. So I went to Special Reserve.

Probably take about 10 days to get here. I'll just have to live with the demo until then.

2d games released NOW, are dead... this game wouldnt sell that many copies in the north american market. It has nothing new to offer. I was kind of hopin for more... I would like the political system of KOH put into a game like RTW... IF KOH went 3d from the beginning i think they would have caught more attention.. but im sure they are working towards new projects as i speak.

graphics are bull****

3 examples:
- Championship manager
- Paradox games
-steel panthers world at war

people who've played these games will know what i mean.

if you really want the game order it from overseas, it's a bit more expensive yeah...
-----
btw, come to think...
interestingly enough Crusade Kings (a paradox game) took 8-9 months to get released in america...
yeah the NA distributing policies are weird.

I never knew a 2-D prejudice existed on the game market. I guess I was so busy playing all my old 2-D games I never noticed. :)

well.. there is a 3D only attitude now. most companies will not produce anything unless it is 3D. Why? mainly because gamers are getting dumber. (hold on a second and I'll explain)

Back in the days, games were designed for one thing. Content. There was no 3D graphics, and if a game was in 3D, it was very crappy. Gamers relied on imagination to look at a game. The games would throw complex issues at you and test your mettle in situations. Then along came the graphics devolution. With the increase in polygon count, the basic gaming story was lost. Who needs to understand and be told why you are in the game to begin with, just throw a bunch of monsters on the screen and tell people to shoot em. This was the "Doom Phase" Gradually the Doomers started to dumben up the gaming industry. You could make big money off splattering a pig cop with a double shotgun. Why was the pig a cop? Why did he always go straight at you without trying to find cover? Who cares! you got a double shotgun and he dies cool! This phase gradually overtook all other forms of gaming. Don't believe me? what is the number 1 online game that isn't a MMORPG? Counter Strike. What is Counter Strike? (you run around and shoot things in pretty graphics from 1999) YAY!

The doom phase began to die when Half Life came out. For the first time, a shooting intensive game dared the gamer to understand and become part of the game. What? You mean I just don't shoot everything? How... weird... Games began to take on new meaning. Stories began to re-emerge in those games... then.. tragedy struck... The console gamers began to realize their folly in playing with a gamepad. They realized how much more content could be found on the PC. They began to bring over the Mortal Combat gender. Fighting games that might be good on a console, but are relatively too simplistic for PC Gamers. (After watching your nice looking 3D character beat the life out of something else... you tend to get dumbed down... no offense ;) )

now... you have a handful of people yelling.. "We want superb graphics to push our 256mb $500 graphic cards so we didn't waste the money on them!" ( $500 for a card that is obsolete in 6 months.. there's an intelligent decision. :go: ) Games with all the meat of a good content based game are tossed to the $9.99 bin for games that have the bells and whistles of a Direct X 9.0 compliant 2400 polygon per character contenless hack'n'slasher. But, hope remains, as long as the true gamers remain true to their roots. (okay, just one LotR reference.. no more)

Now, there are companies like Strategy First. These companies are trying to bring back the content driven games. It is up to us gamers to put down the surge and caffeine drinks, pick up some books.. educate ourselves, and revolt against the forcing of dumbing games upon us. Stand up for your right to play a game that takes more than 45 minutes to win!

Cordially,
the once was dumb, but now is smart

PS. /end rant.

Yeah, and movies were only good in B&W.

Just because a game is in 3D doesn't make it devoid of content.

There is no reason in this day and age why a game can't be 3D. Now, KOH decided to be 2D. Good for them. It took me a bit to get used to, but I'm flexable and I love the game.

I hope that KOH 2 will see a 3D version.

ea is stupid and pathetic, they have no right to say oh here in america we don't like 2d. They don't speak for everyone. Hell they must have missed out on civ games or age of empires which all were very good games and people still love to play them. There is also warcraft II man those are still awsome games. Starcraft is 2d and it still is the bomb.

Yeah American game makers are on the cutting edge. They are making ****ing sick games with 3d graphics, get over it. I am currently looking forward to Halo2 and Halflife2. But always keep in mind, Americans are in a capitalist society where money is everything, don't expect any morals out of us... or games with expanded story lines.

Sir Turylon
06-10-2004, 05:24
Bobbinit is exactly what I was talking about.

anyways...

Half Life 2 is gonna ****. Why? Because there is nothing new in it.. just more of the same.. but with pretty 20,000 polygon characters running around.

Halo 2... more of the same.. but with nicer graphics.

If you are going to quote 3D games that are capable of being good ones... Two come to mind. One is called Spellforce. (blend of strategy and RPG... with pretty graphics) and.... drumroll please.......... Elder Scrolls IV (yes, it's under development.)
