Have you also found that many towns are ridiculously placed (far from where they should be). For example, as I know my country Sweden, I found all the towns at strange locations: Uppsala where Västerås is, Kalmar (on the west coast! ) where Gothenburg is, Lund where Hässleholm is, and so on.

Have you also recognized these misplacements in your own country?

Then it is also historically wrong that the Norwegian Vikings visited Constantinople, they travelled mostly westwards (Danish Vikings mostly south, and Swedish Vikings mostly east)

(I hope they will fix this in a patch. It is very disturbing)

Harold Hardraada was in the Varangian Guard before becoming King of the Danes....perhaps the developers got confused.

Harald Hadrada was a Norwegian king. ;)
And yes he was in service of Byznatine Emperor for many years in the famous Varangian Guard before he returned home and became king.

Varangian Guards were special branch of Byznatine army composed of Vikings.

I think most of the cities are placed like that for playability. Almost all towns from that time would be on the east coast. This is also a matter with that there weren't that many towns in Sweden back then. (Gothenburg for example wasn't founded until much later)
