Anyone know if there is a place to check which countries can build what units? Was playing as Bohemia but could not create crossbowmen. Seemed strange...anyway to tell? Thanks!

That is a good question. It would indeed be useful to know what countries/provinces can make certain units that way one does not have to waste money on constructing essentially useless military buildings.

yeah, i agree. In Age of Empires you can check out what units and upgrades you can make.

There are two ways :

When in a city, just click on an empty garisson slot. Then you'll see all the units you may build in the province (only peasants in many provinces at the beginning). Those that need a specific building are greyed, but you know what buiding is needed if you held the cursor on the icon.

Note that some units are country-specific, some religion-specific, some province-specific, some all at the same time (ex : highlanders can be built everywhere by Scotland, but only in Scottish lands by, say, Italy or France).

This can lead to quite complicated situations. I cannot say where and by whom heavy crossbowmen can be built. Just check the military map in political maps, you'll know in a few clicks what can be built where, depending on the nation you're playing.
