So, what is your first Experience Skill for your Marshals?

My first is Tactics, never leave home without it! Just postitin your fortified camp in front of the marching enemy and enjoy a lovely defence bonus and whittle off a couple of them before they even get to you!

Though I've stoped playing until the patch I usually went for tactics, then learning.

Morale increase, the fear skill that decreases enemy morale, and the anti-rebel one - I forget the names yet I played it a few minutes ago.

My marshal builds are usually like so:
3 points Leadership
3 points Dread
3 points Strategist

From there, you can specialize. Most of the time my armies are mixed, so I do it like so:
3 points Engineering(for trebs)
3 points Ballistics(arrows)
3 points Sword Mastery/Siegecraft/Tactics/Maneuver

Substitute Iron Fist for a marshal that you use on anti-rebel patrol.

Thanks, Paladin. I found your first three to be the best as well and that ballistics will make an all-archer army just about invincible. I must try using Tactics, which I have so far ignored.

Try Balistics, Archer mastery , Manoveur + horse archers - pretty deadly!
I always put points on leadership type skills...quite usefull.

Plundering 3lvl on some fast hero can bring a lot of gold. Hit and Run (or fight if strong)
Well every skill is usefull depends the style of the marshall, but there are always universal skills like Leadership that are must for most of the marshalls.

I start with  Learning 1-2-3, usually it takes 3 battles to get those. After that, you can keep up this pace: 1 battle = 1 experience level. As I mentioned in another thread (and others too), ranged units are overpowered, so build on this advantage with Archery 1-2-3 (especially 3 is very nice, because it stops casulties from friendly fire) and  Balistics 1-2-3. After that, you can pretty much do whatever you like, because your pretty much invincible.
Engineering is nice, because you can add 4 more units to your already invincible army.

This is great stuff. One thing I have noticed, however, is that seige equipment really slows an army down.

Playing the Golden Horde, all my troops are on horseback. They really move fast, espcially with points in Strategist. However, my marshall with the engineering and siege equipment takes 3 times as long to get where he's going as my other marshalls without siege equipment. This may be understating it, actually. In any event, I send two marshalls, one with and one without siege equipment when attaching an enemy province. The one without takes care of enemy marshalls, while the one with sloooooowly get there.

I've actually found that later in the game, three marshalls are good for attacks on well-fortified cities. Two to beseige, and the third (entirely cavalry if possible) to intercept relief columns coming to break the siege. This is assuming that you do not lead the attack yourself. This is when a fast army really comes in handy.

I usually make my king or 1 of his son with 3 star in warfare a marshal with all cavarly units(feudal knight if possible)
Skills:
Leadership
Dread
Cavarly mastery
Ironfirst
The 1 for plundering(can't remember name)
I use him for anti rebel and to plunder enemy land. Fast and deadly :silly: . :)

so here is the basic template I use:

3x Leadership
3x Dread

and from there I specialise:
3x Archery/speramastery/sordmastery
3x tthe one that gives mounted extra exp (I use this when I have at least 30% of my army mounted)
3x Iron fist/siegecraft
3x tactictics/ something other.

I always do this:

3x Tatics
3x Experence skill(calvary or infanty)
3x stagist (I need my armys to move fast)
3x dread
3x leadership
and the last one is always different.

I go for Travelling speed then Arrows and Ballistics (flaming arrows kick ***) and then I specialize. I usually attack with to knights and make their skills complement each other. But speed, arrows and ballistics is basic for me.

The speed and anti rebel skills allow rebellions to become easy training. The anti rebel bonus is almost the first skill I choose.

I find rebels to be easely defeted, therefore, I find rebel skill to be just waste of space ;) And the speed - you do not need to chace them, just click on them and see where they are headed and pick the same rute. They will start to plunder, you attack - kill - problem solved
