An idea to solve problem of what to do with princesses, especially when you have no heirs - why not marry them to one of your knights, promoting him to a prince. Maybe make his claim to the throne stronger than just a random knight but a little less than an actual blood prince. This would also let you choose which knight took control when you've got no male heir, though maybe if you select a level one merchant as an heir your level eighteen marshall gets pissed and rebels :angry:
