i doubt. ive seen a lot of games which also use the pak. extension to store gamedata. take the example of CDV's Blitzkrieg. the whole game is stored in pak. files.

.pak is just a common name for packed.
it is a typical thinking of windows users that files are identified by their endings. normally the header of a file identifies it regardless of the ending.

for example i can name a letter text.jpg, but it is still a text.

anyway, is there any way to open these files with some sort of program?

hehe, good question ;)
SF or BSS don't provide a tool for this right now. but the modders here in the forum are creating one. i think they will show up here and share there information with you.

Nova Software Extractor does a good job. But you need the full version, and in fact, it can only open the packed images, sounds and movies.

Of course that Notepad will bug it all.. It replaces some characters with others, but you simply don't see this and thus the checksums are changed. You must open it with something that preserves file the correct non-graphic symbols as CR and LF for example and You must not change the length of the already given names.
