I really enjoy playing this game. But it seems the hope for better AI and 2 player campaign mode is nonexistent. I will continue to play this game, but I ask, are there any games similar to this that have a 2 player campaign mode?

Well, you might want to take a look at "Europa Universalis II" by Paradox Entertainment. It has no realtimebattles and by far fewer troops, but it can be played via internet.

I played Hearts of Iron, there was way too much going on at once. So there are no games like this, or like Medieval Total War, that have two player campaign mode?

I don't know, maybe Cosacks 2 will get a Multiplayer world conquering mode, as it will get a single player World coonquering too

You'd think the Paradox crowd would make attempts to make this game multiplayer, considering the huge success they've had with their own, similar games.

Paradox doesn't have the rights to modify KoH. They just sell the CDs.
