What factors affect Cleric book production?

Does it matter what province a Cleric is set to govern, or does he always produce 1-6 extra books if he has 0-5 stars?

For example, will he write more if there is a Church and a Library in a province instead of just a Church? What if it's a University or Cathedral town?

I've been moving my clerics around to be in the highest book producing provinces, but I'm thinking that it might be a waste and I can just leave them some place safe unless I need to adopt or convert a population.

In towns with Universities, Clerics write more books. I always do the same thing as you wrote - find the best book producing province.

5-star Cleric with University gives +10 books.
2-star Cleric with Library gives +3 books.
Or so does econst.ini say.

I did some tests with a Cleric to see how many Books/Piety he produced as he moved up the ranks in one particular province.

A Province with a Church and Library produces:

No Cleric: 2 Books, 15 Piety
0 Star Cleric: 3 Books, 15 Piety
1 Star Cleric: 4 Books, 15 Piety
2 Star Cleric: 8 Books, 15 Piety
3 Star Cleric: 8 Books, 18 Piety
4 Star Cleric: 9 Books, 18 Piety
5 Star Cleric (or Patriarch): 9 Books, 21 Piety


So for Books, for each level, you earn an incremental (from 0 to 5):
+1, +1, +4, +0, +1, +0

And for Piety, for each level, you earn an incremental (from 0 to 5):
+0, +0, +0, +3, +0, +3

So if you have multiple clerics, it pays to first get them to 2 stars each, rather than ramping one up to +5 then the other.

At 3 stars and above, the main bonuses are in piety generation.




I did some additional tests comparing no cleric to adding a 5-star Cleric (Patriarch)
For Church w/ Library:

with 5-star Cleric: 9 Books, 3 Piety

without Cleric: 2 Books, 7 piety
with 5-star Cleric: 9 Books, 9 Piety

Tambov
without Cleric: 2 Books, 11 piety
with 5-star Cleric: 9 Books, 15 Piety

Banat
without Cleric: 2 Books, 15 piety
with 5-star Cleric: 9 Books, 21 Piety

Dalmatia
without Cleric: 2 Books, 15 piety
with 5-star Cleric: 9 Books, 21 Piety




I also compared no cleric to adding a 5-star Cleric (Patriarch)
