We have 2 screenshots with income of 2 kingdoms: Byzantina and Austrian.

On both, there is one of biggest expenses colomn "marshals"

I first thought it is like:
1 marshall, I must pay him 10 pieces of money, 2 then 20 etc. but it's not like that. When I look at it carefully
Austria has 3 marshalls(knights who are operating with player's army, you can see them on the top, where are those faces, Marshclls are in red frame) and pay them only 20
Bytzantia has 4 marshalls and pay them 100 and also pay nothing to traders.

On what our expenses depend?
army largeness?
skills of knights(the more skilled, the more expensive)?
something else?

oh, the screenshots are:
Byzantium (http://www.knights-of-honor.net//english/screenshot.php?screenshot=0101&all=0100|0099|0098|0097|0096|0101|0095|0094|0093#)
Austria (http://www.knights-of-honor.net//english/screenshot.php?screenshot=0092&all=0092|0091|0090|0089|0088|0087|0086|0085|0084#)

Damn! Mr. Holmes :) we are revealed ... :(

The upkeep is "progressive". One Marshal - 10 gold, 2 - 30 gold, 3 - 50 gold, 4 - 100 gold, etc. Exact numbers are matter of ballance and will be set during final stage of development. So, please accept these as examples. Traders are supposed to "generate" gold for you - not to take your gold away :)

This progressive price is "per proffesion". For example, 2 Marshals costs you 30 gold. Two Clerics costs you 30 gold. But one Cleric and One Marshal will cost you 20 gold (10 for each of them).

In other words if you want to play with MANY (well, up to 9) armies you will have to pay really a lot. Small Kingdoms can't afford it. Currently it is 2000 gold for 9 Knights of same "profession".

Of course, if you assign one of your Royal family (King himself, or one of the Princes) he is not counted. I.e. he doesn't need to get paid :) ... i.e. he is actually working for himself, isn't he?! :)

The Trader needs to get paid, only when he is "importing" valuable resource or if he is "idle" i.e. staying in Royal Court and doing nothing.

Nobody works for free (also the serves work for food etc. at least :))

And knights (vassals also) were payed by their overlord in those times. Who arrived and helped, acted by feudal law and got payed for it (to pay his own expenses), who not, was against the law and had to pay :dwink:

You have to pay when you hire them ( a fixed hard lump of gold) and after - their upkeep is deducted from your gold income.

I'm not quite sure i know what you mean Elewyn:confused:

Maybe it's possible to dicide whether the food produced goes to the army or the general population or is destributed even.
